Self-performed on this job

White — proposed excavation
  • Mass earthwork
  • Equipment foundations
  • Slab on grade

Everything above was built by our own crews and equipment. When the ground turned up something the drawings did not show, the superintendent redirected them that morning.

What was hard

Process equipment foundations were still being engineered while the shell had to come out of the ground, and the equipment vendor's loads changed twice during construction.

What we did

We sequenced the shell independently of the process areas and left the equipment pads as a late, self-performed concrete package our own crews could turn quickly when the final loads landed.

What it produced

Two vendor load changes absorbed without a schedule extension, because the concrete crew was ours to redirect.
