Self-performed on this job

White — proposed excavation
  • Mass earthwork
  • Site utilities
  • Paving subgrade

Everything above was built by our own crews and equipment. When the ground turned up something the drawings did not show, the superintendent redirected them that morning.

What was hard

Abandoning the spur would have cost the site its rail-served designation, but keeping it put a live track diagonally across the pad. Nothing about the standard building orientation worked.

What we did

We rotated the building to keep the spur live and rebuilt the truck court to work at the resulting angle. Our crews staged the earthwork around scheduled rail windows rather than asking the railroad to work around us.

What it produced

Rail service retained through construction with no loss of building area.
